Hi, I am Deb Studtmann, Co-Owner of First Galena Corporation Home Building Division. I always love to tell the story of how Paul and I became modular home builders. Paul Studtmann, Co-Owner and Broker for First Galena Corporation - Real Estate Division, was in search of a way to bring good affordable housing to the Galena area. Back in 1990, Galena had very little to offer in "New Housing". The Galena Territory was booming and housing for the people of Galena was very minimal. Paul and I drove out to Dyersville, Iowa. I came along reluctantly, confessing that architects don't want to be associated with "shoe box" houses. Much to my surprise, Paul and I were impressed with the models in Dyersville. We believed we could do something with this type of building method. We then wanted to see how they were constructed and that sold us on the value of the system built construction.

I had a design build construction company at the time called Custom Concepts Architect and was building in the Galena Territory and surrounding area. I knew too well the frustrations of getting good trades people, the lack of quality materials, and timeliness of construction for my customers. To watch this factory assemble your new home in a controlled environment with the same material as a stick built home, but offering 30% more structure, seemed like the way to build in the future. I felt that with my architectural experience and the factory's technology we could bring to Jo Daviess County, good - quality housing for a better dollar value and make a difference to our community. In 1990 Paul and I started First Galena Corporation - Home Building Division. We built about 35 homes a year. Our motto is "Built Better, Built Faster, At An Affordable Price".

We have won two National Home Building Systems design awards for our homes in both the Galena Territory and Apple Canyon Lake.

Living in a rural area can make building a house very labor intensive. With rising gas prices and lumber shortages, system built construction solves many of these problems.
